Foster Care / Adoption Cases

About

Effective September 8, 2015, Foster Care and Adoption case workers are able to enter Foster Care / Adoption cases into the VaCMS. The standard VaCMS Intake / Screening driver flow applies to these cases just as it does to all other programs entered into the VaCMS. There are two key areas that Foster Care / Adoption case workers need to remember in order to build the case properly. Details of these areas are below.

Client Information Page

There is a section on the Client Information page called Client address if different from case address. Complete this section if a customer resides somewhere different from the physical case address entered on the Household Address page. For Foster Care cases, enter the LDSS as the case address and the foster parent’s address as the client level address for the child. Do not enter a mailing address for Foster Care cases.

You will access the Client Information page for each person on the case, regardless of whether they are requesting assistance or not. If a customer resides at an address different from case address:

  1. Select No from the Is client address same as case address dropdown menu.
  2. Enter the address for the customer.
  3. Click Validate Address / Get Locality to verify the address.

  1. Select the appropriate Locality from the dropdown menu if the locality does not automatically populate.

  2. Enter the address care of details of the application in the Attn / Care Of field.

Note: The information entered in the Attn / Care of: field on the Client Information page is sent to MMIS as the MMIS Address 1 line.

The address entered as the street address and Address 2 / PO Box is sent to MMIS as the MMIS Address 2 line.

The FIPS associated with the Client level address is sent to MMIS as the MMIS Enrollee ID address.

If the client is in Foster Care in another state, the VaCMS sends a default FIPS of 975 to MMIS.

If the Attn / Care of: field is left blank:

Household Clients - Questions Page

  1. On the Household Clients – Questions page there is a question for Foster Case / Adoption Assistance. Answer Yes to this question to queue the Foster Care/Adoption Assistance – Details page.

  2. Complete this page according to the specifics of your case.
