Use this procedure to record relationship details between each member of the household.
The Relationship - Details page displays. This page displays a list of all the individuals for whom the relationship needs to be identified.

Relationship details are read from left to right in this section. Read each line like a sentence. "(Individual Name) is the _____ of (Reference Name)." Example: "John Smith is the ____ of Bob Jones." The first time visiting this page the applicant displays in read-only. |
Click the Relationship dropdown menu to define the relationship between two household members.
If a relationship between two individuals is recorded as “Undefined” in the Relationship column, click the respective APTC Relationship dropdown menu and choose the appropriate value.
For same-sex marriages, select Husband or Wife from the relationship dropdown menu.

Once a relationship is selected, the VaCMS populates that relationship in the Reverse Relationship section. If In Loco Parentis is checked, that relationship(s) will not auto-populate below. The Effective Begin Date, Verification, In Loco Parentis and Relative Acting as Designated Caretaker fields will not populate between sections. |
Review the Effective Begin Dates and modify if appropriate.

During the Intake process the Effective Begin Date defaults to the first of the application / screening month. When making updates to the Data Collection driver flow the Effective Begin Date defaults to the current date. |
Click the Verification dropdown menu and choose the appropriate option.
Select the In Loco Parentis checkbox if the client is acting in loco parentis for the child being linked to.

The In Loco Parentis checkbox is disabled if the relationship selected is Father or Mother. Add a page level comment explaining how loco parentis was determined, if applicable. |
Select the Relative Acting as Designated Caretaker checkbox if the client is acting as a caretaker and is related to the child displayed in the Reference Name column. This should not be selected if the adult is a Mother or Father of the child.

Repeat the process for adding relationships between members until all relationships are recorded, including the reverse relationships. All relationships between household members must be recorded before you can navigate to the next page. |
Click Save + Continue.
If all client relationship details are complete for the clients:
The Education - Details page displays. Proceed to Education Details, the next step in the Data Collection process.
