Changing from a TANF to TANF Transitional Case

Use this procedure to close the existing TANF case and register a TANF Transitional case.

Process Steps:

  1. Close the existing TANF case.

  2. Register a new application for the TANF Transitional case.

When you associate a case with an existing closed case, the case number from the closed TANF case will be assigned to the TANF Transitional case once the intake case action for the TANF transitional application is initiated.

  1. Initiate the Intake process and enter the TANF Transitional information on the Other In State Benefits page.

The effective begin date for TANF transitional is the first day of the month following the TANF case closure date.

The effective begin date must be equal to or before the application date.

The effective begin date should be when the TANF transitional period started, which might be prior to the application date. For example, if TANF ends July 31, 2011 and Transitional TANF starts August 1, 2011, and the application is received September 15, 2011, then on the other in state benefits page, the effective begin date for the Transitional TANF benefit should be August 1, 2011 and the end date should be July 31, 2012.

The end date is enabled for the Transitional TANF benefit type and should be entered. The VaCMS uses the end date to trigger an alert to the worker 90 days before the end date to let the worker know that the TANF transitional is ending.

  1. Complete the Intake process and run eligibility using the TANF Transitional program category.
  2. After verifying the eligibility results, certify and generate the Notice of Action.

  3. Search for and update the Authorization.

  1. Generate the POSO and approve the Authorization.

Results of the Procedure:

The TANF case is successfully closed and the TANF Transitional case has been processed and authorized.
